Grok 2
Grok 2 is xAI's second-generation frontier model, released in August 2024. It ships in two sizes (Grok 2 and Grok 2 mini) on the X platform and xAI API. Grok 2 introduced image understanding, improved reasoning, and integration with X's real-time feed for news-aware answers. At release it traded places with GPT-4 and Claude 3.5 Sonnet on the LMSYS arena, and served as the predecessor to the much stronger Grok 3 / Grok 4 reasoning line.
