BCA vs B.Tech for Agentic AI — which degree?

Both routes appear on every "after 12th" list, and they are genuinely different things. BCA is a three-year computer-applications degree with lighter mathematics and no engineering accreditation. B.Tech is a four-year AICTE-approved engineering degree with heavier mathematics, lab requirements, and campus-placement structure. For Agentic AI specifically, here is what each route gives you — VSET offers the B.Tech side via B.Tech CSE (AI & ML), and does not offer BCA.

What each degree actually is

BCA (Bachelor of Computer Applications) is a three-year undergraduate degree focused on computer applications and software, with lighter mathematics requirements. B.Tech (Bachelor of Technology) is a four-year AICTE-approved engineering degree with mandatory mathematics, physics, lab work, and a final-year capstone. The accreditation difference matters for some employers and for postgraduate routes like M.Tech and GATE.

How VSET teaches Agentic AI

Agentic AI describes systems where language models drive multi-step, goal-directed behaviour with tool access, memory and delegation. It is the engineering discipline around building, constraining and evaluating such systems. At VSET this maps to documented coursework depth inside B.Tech CSE (AI & ML).

  • Agentic material at VSET is anchored in two published libraries: a 160+ page MCP library and a ~100 page A2A/agent-protocols library.
  • Orchestration frameworks — LangGraph, CrewAI, AutoGen — are documented at learn.engineering.vips.edu.
  • AI safety content in the same curriculum covers the constraint side of autonomous systems.
  • Delivered inside the B.Tech CSE (AI & ML) track affiliated to GGSIPU.

Where Agentic AI skills lead

Graduates applying Agentic AI skills typically target roles such as Agentic AI Engineer, AI Platform Engineer, LLM Application Developer, AI Engineer, Automation Architect. Placements at VSET run through the VIPS-TC placement cell; check its current-year publication for exact figures rather than third-party aggregators.

How admission works

Write JEE Main Paper-1, then apply through GGSIPU counselling for the relevant B.Tech programme at VSET. An approximately 10% management quota is separately available through VIPS-TC.

Frequently asked questions

Is BCA or B.Tech better for Agentic AI?

B.Tech gives more depth for Agentic AI: four years, stronger mathematics, lab infrastructure, and campus-placement structure. BCA is shorter and less mathematical, which suits students who want a faster route into applications-level work. Neither blocks the field outright — a BCA graduate can specialise later through an MCA or self-directed work.

Does VSET offer BCA?

No. VSET offers seven GGSIPU-affiliated B.Tech engineering programmes. BCA is offered elsewhere within VIPS-TC and by other GGSIPU-affiliated institutions — check their official pages directly.

How is agentic AI different from just using an LLM?

Agentic systems plan and act over multiple steps with tool access rather than returning one answer. VSET's curriculum covers this through its MCP and agent-protocol libraries and frameworks such as LangGraph.

Is agentic AI a separate specialisation at VSET?

No. It is coursework inside the AI & ML track. VSET's seven B.Tech programmes do not include a standalone agentic AI degree.

Does the curriculum address safety of autonomous systems?

Yes. AI safety is among the topics published at learn.engineering.vips.edu alongside the agent-protocol material.
